Making the minimum payments is a recipe for disaster and the banks understand this as well as most consumers. They know people doing this don’t understand the math (takes about 30 years to pay it off with almost all of it being interest.) Making the minimum payment is telling the bank, “I am a sucker and don’t mind paying high interest rates.” The only way to win at the credit card game is to use a debit card or pay off the credit card monthly. Bankers call us types who do this free loaders for good reason. It is up to the individual to use their responsibility to handle their credit, it’s not the banks fault when people abuse it. They assume they are dealing with adults here.
OP said she was paying over the minimum until the rate ore than doubled.
Banks don't make money off people who pay off 100% on time. They want you to carry a balance. They make money off that balance.
IMHO get a fixed personal loan and get the heck away from BOA.

You do have to wonder about someone that joins a forum and the first and only post is an attack on a business.
They did file for BK a couple weeks ago including the resort, they said to protect assets while getting financing. We will see, while the OP would love to see them go under, any dealer closing their doors is not great for us. One less competitor and one less source of parts or services as well as coaches. If their past performance in customer service contributed to the current problems we can hope this is a wakeup call.
Read the post about googling then get back to us. It was a first post yes, but has been backed up with proof.

As you should well remember the first sentence of the OP.
"I have to open by saying my wife has a credit card problem."
Has absolutely nothing to do with getting through a tough time.
As to Bait and Switch, read the fine print of the offer. I know most don't want to be bothered with such pithy little details, they are just too eager to become a kamikaze credit card abuser.
I was referring to if you do, not her. Lots of people preach thinking it will never happen to them. The best we can do is hope it doesn't.
FWIW don't you think her "credit card problem" should have been enough to discourage BOA from even extending the deal to her? If she was in such bad shape they more than doubled the rate, one should question why they even took her on to begin with.

Remember this quote. I hope that you never need to use credit to get you through a tough time in your life like some people have. Divorce, school loans, unforseen medical bills/expenses and so on. There is another face to the credit issue than just the guy who has much and owns nothing.
Regardless, BOA played a dirty trick. Would some of you be saying the same thing if it was your mortgage or car loan that got hiked over double despite your paying the balance down every month? Granted most are likely fixed like mine, but in this instance, the card holder had not done anything in her dealings with BOA to justify them raising the rate more than double. At least not that we know of. If BOA was truly worried about the debt they should have locked the card so she could not keep spending on it. I guess they still feel fine about her adding to her debt though even if she can't pay it. I would think that BOA would also have done a crdit check on her BEFORE they issued the card. Hello? She transferred balances as part of the deal. They baited and switched.

One of most RV owners fears is that they end up owning an orphan. With this in mind I recommend that any perspective buyer do thier homework, check out the solvency of the company, check out sales and service. Only the strong will survive.
Not a fear of mine. Figure most products are only covered by a 1 year warranty anyhow. Most of the RV is made up of other companies equipment anyhow and covered by longer warranties as well. About all your manufacturers warranty covers is the structure. AFter that warranty is up you are either running on a 3rd party extended warranty or paying out of pocket to have repairs done anyhow. RV's are not technologically advanced products. Any good and reputable RV repair facilty can repair any RV pretty much. Do you have all the work you need done on your sticks and bricks home done by the people who built or installed it originally? Same idea.

Which vehicles are the failures if you go by sales then?
I would be a lot more interested (reading your earlier posts in this thread) in the reasons you would give if a Big 3 built vehicle only had 2/3 of predicted sales.
Difference is the Big 3 by past reputation would keep building and building vehicles at a clip as if they WERE selling all of them. I am sure the Big 3's predictions for it's trucks and SUV sales have not been met the last few years. The point was that given conditions and sales numbers related to their other vehicles, it sold pretty well. Putting an unrealistic sales goal was dumb. Especially in a first year, first release product. IIRC the Big 3's truck sales did not exactly increase in 2005 through the present.

Keith, many of your responses seem pointed toward defending the Nissan Titan and I assume your choice to purchase one. It would be perfectly natural to defend this choice and I would personally think the Titan is a "cool" truck.
It would though be irrational to think the truck has been successful in the market place and widely accepted.
JALLEN - Nissan expected to sell 100k Titans per year. This was before Katrina and $4.00 a gallon regular unleaded. Nissan as a whole sells just over 1 million total vehicles in the US. Yes, You read that right. Basically Ford sells almost 3/4 of Nissan's total sales in the F150 alone. The only vehicles Nissan sells more than 100,000 units of are the Altima and Sentra. Essentially the Titan was a number 4 to 5 seller for Nissan. It outsold the Maxima, Frontier, XTerra, Armada and Pathfinder. Which vehicles are the failures if you go by sales then? You are trying to match sales success of a huge manufacturer over a small manufacturer. Do I like my truck? Sure do, but please not lets say no one wanted or bought them and that's why they are/were merging with Dodge. They sold right about in line with the rest of Nissan's lineup. The only person who seemed to choose to say it failed was Carlos Ghosn.

They also were working on the car market and are bringing out some interesting products.
Not until the last 3 years when it was to late to reright the ship they are now sinking on. Does the phrase too little too late ring a bell? I am not denying the other got in on trucks and SUV's. In many cases they already had some on the market. Difference was they did not funnel money and production capability away from their other lines just to get in on it. It is a perfect example of milking one market till it dries up with no focus on the rest of the line up.

Well lets see. Your titan gets you 19 mpg Hiway but as you have stated Milage is not an issue. My 1994 F150 gets 17 and has a cast iron block and cast iron heads 4:10 limited slip rearend and blows the doors off every Titan that has challanged me so I'm struggling with the updating of Nissans engine technology.
Well, let's see. Judging from your screen name I am going to assume your 1994 F150 is a Lightening. Will your truck tow what mine will? You are comparing a dedicated sport truck to a general use truck. FWIW I am having a hard time believing your 240hp/340ftlb output engine is significantly beating a truck with 305-317hp and over 380ftlb engine output. Are you stock?
FWIW info on the net calls out:
94 Lightning 0-60 at 7.2 sec., Titan 7.4 sec.
1/4 mile: Lightning 15.6, Titan 14.8-15.0 sec.
Hardly the stuff that makes for door being blown off.

My bad, I assumes you meant development of the trucks and SUV's, not including plant construction. They had to build them somewhere and had no present facilities large enough. If you look closer you will find that the plants you name for the Japanese also build more than just trucks as well. IIRC the Nissan plant also builds the Quest minivan and was also designed and is slated to build MDT trucks for Nissan. It is the only plant that builds/built Titans for the North American market. The Tundra plant included other manufacturing capabilities other than just assembly of Tundras. As I said before, it was a safe risk for them. They were dominating the car market by a large margin. Toyota also wasn't doing 1/2 bad with the previous Tundra and Tacoma. Why not look to expand their line up into what was a profitable market? Also as I said before, they didn't neglect the reason they had the capital to make the expansion in the first place. The Big 3 rode the wave until it was washing back out to sea and taking them with it.

Reality:
· The domestic companies' lineup has been truck-heavy, but Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have all spent billions of dollars on pickups and SUVs because trucks are a large and historically profitable part of the auto industry.
· The most fuel-efficient full-size pickups from GM, Ford and Chrysler all have higher EPA fuel economy ratings than Toyota and Nissan's full-size pickups.
Sorry, but your Myth No. 5 is a myth.
GM, Ford and Chrysler did indeed put too many eggs in the truck and SUV basket. It was dumb. The other brands you mentioned spent money to diversify by adding trucks to their line ups. Possibly combined they spent billions BTW. All t he foreign brands maintained a strong presence in the car market to keep cash flowing and pay for developing the SUV's and trucks. The Big 3 handed them the car market and focused on SUV's and trucks. Don't believe me? Go compare the evolution of the Japanese compact and mid sized cars versus the Big 3 over the last 10 years. Not even close.
Your fuel efficiency comparo is barely valid and not a very good piece of info to back up any point. GM and Ford are offering specially equipped trucks to get 21mpg. GM is getting that mileage with their 5.3L V8 and below. The largest difference in non specialty truck mileage is around 2mpg. Sounds like a lot, bur when you are comparing 15-18 to 16-20, it is kind of irrelevant as most serious truck buyers aren't looking at mileage as much as capability.

Not my myth and was as reported by the Detroit Free press Nov. 17th of this year. Believe it or don't but What exactly in the statement is incorrect?

Kind of irrelavent? I own 4 F series trucks. That make me a serious truck buyer. 1 has the ford 5.4L motor and 2 others running 5.8L V8's I was very interested in capability but couldn't afford to operate them if they were not gettin 17 mpg hiway
Anybody buying a 1/2 ton pick up(largest of the japanese offerings) will be happy with a 5.3 and 5.4 V8.
Getting 21 MPG from a 5.3L engine is quite a feat.
Plain and simple they built what the public wanted. They are again building what the public wants. If credit was available they would not be looking for Govt loans. Guess the 700 billion to the financial industry didn't have the desired effect.
I posted as food for thought and appreciate your posts however I am hearing a lot of your opinions but because you believe them does not make them fact even if you present them as such.
Healthy dialoge is good and I will attempt to validate the figures you supplied.

Lightening, do you honestly think the DETROIT Free Press is going to post anything critical of the Big 3? If you are running F150's then you bought the largest small blocks available in that class by Ford. So yes, power must have some importance to you over mileage or you would have gotten straight 6's or 4.6L's. All of the 1/2 tons on the market will get 17mpg or better highway with the possible exception of the GM 6.0L. I can touch 19mpg at 65mph empty with my Titan. IIRC the Tundra with the 5.7L will get 18-19 highway. Go drive a Titan with the 5.6L, then go drive your 5.4L and the 5.3L and come back and tell me they are close. GM's 5.3L is last in the group of 5.0L plus displacement for power. Getting 21mpg out of a 2wd 5.3L with MDS and not geared for any heavy hauling is no big feat. Read the fine print my friend. The truck getting 21mpg is also the one you don't want for towing any sizeable camper. IIRC both Ford and GM 21mpg trucks are 2wd with aero enhancements. Fords new one is the F150 XFE and GM has done something similiar and added an acronym. You once again need to ask yourself after looking at the Big 3's car line ups, is it money well spent to chase a 2-3mpg highway advantage in the truck market when you have a whole lineup of cars that is lagging in many areas that get 10mpg better than the trucks and SUV's they are investing money into? If Ford dropped some money on the Duratec V6 and updated it then it probably would have been money well spent. Instead they debut 3 new sedans with a 10 year old engine with with worst in class power and mpg. Nice.
FWIW my "opinion" is backed up by history. Go check out the upgrades and makeovers to the Big 3's trucks vs their cars. The Taurus went almost 10 years with the cast iron Vulcan V6. That is not a good thing.

Some of you have way too much time on your hands. Save it for the company that truly rips you off. I have better things to do than to go postal over someone who answers a phone while running a register. For every pet peeve on has, they are probably doing something that is someone elses pet peeve.

I think many of you miss the point. THE BANK RAISED THE INTEREST RATE ON A GOOD CUSTOMER. Yes she had debt, but she was paying on it. Isn't that the point of making money via loans and CC's? A running balance is a good thing to a CC company as it means they are making money. What they do by hiking the rate on a paying customer is basically shoot themselves in the foot and turn that good paying customer into a delinquent customer or someone who goes to a debt councilor to have rates reduced and pay off their obligations at a much smaller percentage.

Just me but I am more concerned with my service befroe and during the meal than how fast they take my money. As long as they complete the process timely and accurately I could care less. I find it more rude to be near people talkng on cell phones while I wait in line or or eat.
In regards to reprimand. That should be done in private, not in front of a customer. Period. How would you feel if you made a mistake and were called out inf ront of your peers and reprimanded for it? Add in that sometimes the customer is not always right. I have seen my fair share of customers whom no amount of butt kissing would be made happy. They walked in that way, it wasn't spurred by the empoyee.

I'd be a little concerned with the service department of the dealership that you went to if they cannot tell you what that was. They should hae wiring diagrams to show all that. A plug and the location should make it real easy to trace with a factory schematic.

If she was not defaulting on her payments at the 9.9% limit then the rate should have stayed 9.9%. She did nothing to warrant the rate hike with BoA. Regardless of her credit rating, she was a paying customer who was keeping her obligations at the 9.9% rate. WHat BoA has successfully done is ensure she will not be able to pay the new monthly balance and will most likely take her business elsewhere or head to a credit counselor to settle up and they will only get a portion of their money. Raising rates on paying customers is just dumb. It is a recipe to make them nonpaying customers.
Much like the banks that froze lines of credit due to their errors in real estate appraisels. My boss had his frozen, wondered why as he had 2 car loans he paid off with them, a CC that was paid on time and almost always in full and his mortgage which has always been on time. Reason? His house had depreciated in the market. They had recently appraised it at well over area market value when they issued him the HELOC. High to the point he asked if they had seen the right home. When real estate prices dropped and the credit crisis began they froze his HELOC. He has pulled all his business from them and got better rates to boot elsewhere.

I need to ask the question. What are some of you doing that you are making such a mess that you need gloves and booties??? By the time you get done with the grey water and a proper rinse, you really need to go some to get fecal matter on you. Barring a malfunction I just don't see where you guys are coming from. A little anti bacterial hand lotion if I can't do a quick soap and water rinse and I am on my way.
